The Runewords System is a custom system made specifically for UO Horizon. This system allows you to add powerful magical properties directly to your weapons and armor.
To use this system, you will need to utilize six different skills. Please note that Magery and Alchemy must be on the same character template to work.
The required skill level gives you a small chance to craft each item. A higher skill level is recommended to avoid wasting resources.
Creating Runewords requires gathering specific resources from around the world, ranging from basic magic supplies to rare drops from monsters.

| Dragon Blood | Found by skinning dragons/drakes. |
| Empty Bottle | Bought from the alchemist NPC. |
| Fertile Dirt | Dropped by Earth elemental mobs. |
| Gems | Like Citrines or amethysts. Dropped by many mobs, but you can buy them from the jeweler NPC. |
| Magery and Necromancy reagents | They can be found everywhere, but the easiest is to buy them from vendor NPCs. |
| Mortar and Pestle | For Alchemy crafting. |
| Quartz | Dropped by Quartz Elementals or bought at the jeweler NPC. |
| Scriber’s Pen | For Inscription crafting. |
| Sledge Hammer | Crafted with Tinkering. |
| Water | A container filled with water. You can buy Pitches of Water from the innkeeper NPC. |
Wood Pulp is the first component you need to craft, since it is used to create Blank Runes.
Blank Runes are the canvas used to produce each different rune.
Check the Runeword Elixir Recipes list at the end of this page and find the effect you want to add to your weapon or armor. In the Alchemy crafting menu, under the Enchanting Oils subgroup, confirm how many of each Rune you need to craft the final elixir.
Once you know the amount and type of Runes you need, use the list below to find the required ingredients to craft them (each Rune requires only 1 of each ingredient listed).

To craft the runes you want, you will need to gather the correct materials (you can check how to find them in the Required Resources section above).
Gem Dust is made by crushing regular gems using a Sledge Hammer. Here is how to do it:
1. Place a Sledge Hammer into your character's hand. 2. Single-click the hammer to open its menu and select "Use". 3. Target the gem you want to crush.
This will successfully break the gem down into the Gem Dust needed for your rune recipes.
The recipe is located in the Alchemy crafting menu, under the Enchanting Oils group.
The final step is to craft the Runeword Elixir. Each specific Runeword Elixir requires a different level of Alchemy and Magery. Currently, the highest requirement you will face for any elixir is 80 Alchemy and 75 Magery.
To craft it:
1. Open your Alchemy menu. 2. Look under the Enchanting Oils category. 3. Locate the specific elixir recipe you want and craft it.
Below is the list of currently available Runeword recipes and the specific Runes needed to create them.
Note: Some Runewords require multiple copies of the same Rune. To make sure you have enough materials, always double-check the exact ingredient amounts inside your Alchemy crafting menu before you begin.
