====== Ultima Online Skill List ====== In **Ultima Online**, there are **58 official skills** that dictate your character's abilities. Unlike standard MMOs with rigid classes, UO Horizon lets you mix and match these skills up to a total skill cap of **840 points**. The official skills are categorized below by their general gameplay groups. ---- ===== Combat & Martial ===== These skills determine how well you hit, damage, defend, and heal during physical combat. * **Anatomy:** Increases physical damage and improves the healing skill. * **Archery:** Accuracy and use of ranged weapons (bows and crossbows). * **Fencing:** Accuracy and use of thrusting weapons (daggers, spears). * **Healing:** Allows the use of bandages to heal, cure, and resurrect others. * **Mace Fighting:** Accuracy and use of blunt weapons (maces, staffs); drains enemy stamina. * **Parrying:** Chance to block incoming attacks with a shield or weapon. * **Swordsmanship:** Accuracy and use of bladed weapons (swords, axes). * **Tactics:** Directly increases the raw damage dealt by your physical attacks. * **Throwing:** Gargoyle-only skill for ranged throwing weapons (boomerangs, axes). * **Wrestling:** Hand-to-hand combat; prevents you from being easily interrupted while casting spells when unarmed. ---- ===== Magic & Mystical ===== These skills govern spellcasting schools, mana management, and magical potency. * **Bushido:** The honorable combat magic school used by Samurai. * **Chivalry:** Holy magic used by Paladins for buffs, heals, and sacred attacks. * **Evaluating Intelligence:** Increases the damage and effectiveness of Magery spells. * **Focus:** Passively regenerates Stamina and Mana (great for non-mages/warriors). * **Imbuing:** Gargoyle-centric skill used to unravel magical items and add properties to gear. * **Magery:** The classic, core 8-circle wizardry spell school. * **Meditation:** Rapidly regenerates your Mana pool. * **Mysticism:** Gargoyle-themed school focusing on raw elemental power and summoning. * **Necromancy:** Dark magic focusing on curses, raising the undead, and horrific transformations. * **Ninjitsu:** The stealth combat magic school used by Ninjas. * **Resisting Spells:** Lowers the duration and damage of hostile spells cast on you. * **Spellweaving:** Nature-based, cooperative magic school that gets stronger with more casters. * **Spirit Speak:** Allows you to understand ghosts, heal using nearby corpses, and boosts Necromancy damage. ---- ===== Trade & Crafting ===== The backbone of the UO economy. All bard skills require a high Musicianship skill to work. * **Discordance:** Lowers an enemy's stats and resistances using music. * **Musicianship:** The base skill required to successfully play instruments. * **Peacemaking:** Calms aggressive creatures, stopping combat temporarily. * **Provocation:** Incites two creatures to fight each other instead of you. ---- ===== Thieving & Stealth ===== For those who prefer to operate from the shadows or take what isn't theirs. * **Detecting Hidden:** Reveals hidden players, thieves, or floor traps. * **Hiding:** Allows you to vanish from sight while standing perfectly still. * **Lockpicking:** Opening locked chests, dungeon boxes, and treasure chests. * **Poisoning:** Applying infectious poison to bladed weapons or food. * **Remove Trap:** Safely disarming traps on chests or in dungeons. * **Snooping:** Peeking inside another player's or NPC's backpack. * **Stealing:** Taking items from NPCs, monsters, or other players' backpacks. * **Stealth:** Allows you to walk around completely invisible after successfully using Hiding. ---- ===== Wilderness & Animals ===== Skills associated with surviving the wild, tracking targets, and taming beasts. * **Animal Lore:** Inspects a creature's stats; required to command high-level pets and improves Veterinary. * **Animal Taming:** Befriending wild creatures (from horses to Dragons) to fight for you. * **Camping:** Building campfires to safely log out in the wilderness instantly. * **Fishing:** Catching fish, magical messages in a bottle, and fighting sea monsters. * **Herding:** Forcing animals or monsters to move to a specific location. * **Tracking:** Detecting the direction of nearby players, monsters, or animals. * **Veterinary:** Using bandages to heal, cure, and resurrect bonded pets. ---- ===== Miscellaneous / Utility ===== Niche skills that offer flavor, roleplay, or highly specific utility. * **Begging:** Asking NPCs for gold or items (or getting unique holiday gifts). * **Forensic Evaluation:** Examining corpses to see who killed them, or finding thief footprints. * **Item Identification:** Historically used to reveal magical item properties (now mostly used for item valuation). * **Taste Identification:** Detecting poison in food or drink, or identifying potions without drinking them.
